I
am a certified nurse-midwife who provides maternity services
in the hospital and at a birth center. I do not, however,
provide my service for private home births. I take every
reasonable precaution to ensure your safety, comfort and
satisfaction.

- Experience
with birth center births and hospital births.
To include over twenty years in women's health, this includes
observing and assisting in over 8000 births and providing primary
care in over 5000 births.
Birth center, hospital and home birthing share many
similarities. Birth can occur naturally in any of these places.
Problems too, can occur in a home, birth center or a hospital. Research
supports that all three locations are safe for low-risk birth.
In a birth center there are no restrictions on your
activities. The baby is with you the entire time (assuming health).
You are free to choose who you want to be with you; family, friends,
etc. There are less drugs used that can cause side effects to both
mother and baby. Birth Centers decrease the stress of dealing with
strangers in strange locations during labor.
In a birth center location there are necessary childbearing
supplies specific to these environments. There is not the highly
specialized equipment found in an operation room or an intensive
care unit for mother or baby. The services of a certified registered
nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist are not available. All are
available at the referral hospital.
(see. CONTACT page for
referral hospitals to which Simona's Birth Center has full privileges.)
My philosophy of birth is that it is natural
and safe. Birth is the manifestation of love in the world and is
a time of rejoicing. Suspicion and fear destroys love and creates
problems, just as it does in our other personal relationships. Thus,
every act is designed to allow birth to occur naturally and joyously.
